1937 First Flight to Bhuj
1937 First Flight to Bhuj
On 16 April 1937, Tata Sons Ltd extended their Madras-Karachi line to a new fair season halt at Bhuj in Kathiawar State. Only two days notice of the change was given and consequently very few covers were flown.
The Imperial Airways services connecting with these flights were IE.539 and IW.539.
Jal Cooper also records the first flight from Bombay to Bhuj (in Gujarat State) via Cutch Mandvi, Anjar, Mandra and Ahmedabad with the similar explanation: “As less than 24 hours notice was given for this flight, only a small mail was carried from each of these stops”. Mandvi, Anjar and Mandra (or Mundra) are all in Cutch, so it is assumed that this was a local feeder service to Bhuj, connecting with the Karachi-Madras service.
